Adding Resources: Templates

Updated at December 13th, 2021

Templates can be thought of as a parent resource: All (child) resources contained under the main/parent template inherit the attributes of the (parent) template.

Let's look at an example of how templates and resources for a template are created.

To add a new template:

  • Select 'Printshop'
  • Select 'My Resources'
  • Select 'Media'
  • Select 'Add Resource'
  • Select 'Template'
  • Select which resource group this template will belong to under 'Resource group'
    • For this example, we'll choose 'Media'
  • Select 'Next Step'
  • Provide a media name for this template under 'Media name'
  • Provide a description for this template under 'Description'
  • Add tags to this template under 'Tags'
  • Toggle to 'Roll' next to 'Roll' if this is a template for roll types of Media
  • Enter in the templates unit of measurement under 'Resource units of measurement'
  • Enter in the template width and length under 'Width' and 'Length' (optional)
  • Choose a unit for the Width and Length under 'Unit'
  • Enter in the thickness of this template resource under 'Thickness' (optional)
  • Select a thickness unit under 'Unit'
  • Provide the weight (in gsm) of this template resource (optional)
  • Enter in the color for this template resource under 'Color' (optional)

    • The newly created template will be shown in 'Templates' tab of Media resources

Newly added 'Template' resource is contained within the 'Templates' tab of Media Resources

With the newly created template above, any new resource that is associated with the above template will inherit the following:

  • Unit of measurement
  • Width, Length and Unit
  • Thickness and Unit
  • Cost
    • This is set to inherit by default but can be set to not inherit

Let's look at an example of how a child resource created and saved under the above template (New Media Template) inherits the attributes from the template.

  • Select 'Printshop'
  • Select 'My Resources'
  • Select 'Media'
  • Select 'Add Resource'
  • Select 'Single resource'
  • Select 'Media' from 'Resource group'
  • Select the template name under 'Templates (optional)'
